As a lead carpenter, what have been your duties in a previous or present role?
I have been responsible for many things while working as a lead carpenter, including scheduling tasks for expert carpenters, and apprentices, ensuring that they are working right on schedule, making sure that their work is above par, and overseeing all aspects of carpentry work assigned to them. In addition to this, it is my responsibility to make sure that all project modules are properly coordinated, and that resources and equipment are made available as they are needed.

What skills do you think a lead carpenter needs in order to be successful at this work?
To be successful as a lead carpenter, it is important for an individual to possess exceptional knowledge of carpentry work, along with well-placed leadership skills. Additionally, you must be able to connect with external agents such as suppliers and vendors, to ensure that wood supplies and equipment and tools are timely delivered. In addition to this, it is imperative for people working as lead carpenters to ensure that work processes are finished on time, and that quality control is maintained.

Speaking of quality, how do you ensure that quality control is never an issue?
I am a tarter when it comes to quality control, which means that I never compromise of the quality of my work, or that of the crew that I am managing and overseeing. I have controls in place that ensure that quality is never an issue.

Apart from the regular work of a carpenter, what other areas are you required to handle in this role?
Apart from carpentry work, I have been handling the preparation of estimates, reports and requisitions.

How important is training when it comes to working as a lead carpenter?
If you mean how important is it to make sure that training is provided to carpenters, it is exceptionally important – in fact, nothing is more important that continuous training in this regard.

What are your future aspirations?
In the near future, I hope to start my own furniture shop, a feat that I am learning the ropes for, and working diligently towards.
